He left scs under unfortunate circumstances, he got rather brittle but
told no-one here about what he was facing. Now we know he had every
right to be brittle what with his own mortality staring him in the eye.

Something to reflect on and probably not

It is good that his daughter was in touch and I
hope his family has come some way to terms

I agree with all comments. It didn't matter to me if I agreed with his
specific views, I always felt I was 'on his side' because he had great
humanity, infinite humour, and was a really literate, cultured man,
not to mention that he wrote very well. If he insulted someone I
always felt they should feel complimented.
Does anyone know or has anyone written up any information
about his life? I'm a strong believer in privacy in open forums for
the simple reason that the world is full of nutters, twats, and people
you don't around (that's a sad simple reality), but that can probably
safely be relaxed a bit after death?!

I agree - he was right up there with me on his best days.
I always felt he could have been a proffessional columnist for a magazine or something like that. Very clever writing.
Like myself he could pin anyone to the floor in here with ease that's for sure.

Does anyone know or has anyone written up any information
about his life? I'm a strong believer in privacy in open forums for
the simple reason that the world is full of nutters, twats, and people
you don't around (that's a sad simple reality), but that can probably
safely be relaxed a bit after death?!

Sorry to hear about Highlander. He always bragged about how able he was,
"for an old dude". He and I had some fun here a few years ago, singing songs
about that brave volunteer, redneck Ray! I had missed him and did wonder
about his health a while back. God bless him

Had some good "chats" with him during my brief "sojourn" in scs.

Seriously - you should visit Scotland, and sample the local baking.
There used to be a saying, that a Frenchwoman was born with a wooden
spoon in her hand, but a Scotswoman was born with a rolling pin.
Traditional Scottish home baking can be _very_ good.

I've never tried haggis or fried Mars Bars but don't want to try them. I
like regular Mars bars though, but will skip the fried part.

Believe it or not, fried Mars bars are after the time when I was growing
up in Scotland. You know, I'll bet they are not bad at all apart from
being instant heart disease.

Like a lot of other things, or instant fat.

In the scheme of the Scottish diet, it's relatively healthy. Deep fried
pizza crunch is instant heart attack.

****Not to worry, James. I was raised on hog lard with no discernable
effects. Other than a weakened memory which I lay to aging rather than hog
fat.

I've tried both, and they are excellent.

Got to be in beer batter. Also try deep fried UK Bounty bar (the
coconut one) in batter. Excellent as a sweet.

We don't get UK Bounty bars here in Toronto. I think we get Bounty choc bars
but don't know if they are the same as your Bounty bars. Scottish and
English chocolate is much better made in the UK than in Canada or the U.S.
though we do get some chocolate that is made in England and snowballs made
in Scotland. My favourite is Yorkies. We don't get them here. when I was in
Scotland last time about 12 years ago, I brought as many as I could without
weighing my suitcase down too much.

They can't do that. I was born there. It's my homeland and always will be.
But I still don't want to try haggis or fried Mars bars. :>)

Did you notice the date on those posts??? 2010!
And the new recipes worked out very well.
And a Scotswoman baking cakes in Scotland, would seem a suitable subject
for scs...
Eckshully no - I didn't notice the dates.
I'm still struggling to find the posts let alone the dates.
And I suppose I could make an exception this time seeing as the recipes are Scottish.
Don't take advantage of my good nature though.

Some people will miss him more than others... God rest his soul.
I miss him.
I think he'd be highly amused to be the first scs member to achieve 2
tribute threads! One when his death was announced on scs, and once
when sci heard about it.

Once or twice the old gobshite raised a giggle.....
He entertains on a vastly larger scale.
For he now wears the Tartan of God Almighty himsel'.
errr...no.... He is buried beneath the ground like all of us will end
up, or a pile of ashes.

In your case, yes.
Hardy has already taken to lashes, rashes and sashes as a prelude to
ashes.
My condolences to the family and friends of Michael Paterson - ni
bheidh a leitheid ann aris!

I know his family would appreciate that.
Sorry to hear about Highlander. He always bragged about how able he was,
"for an old dude". He and I had some fun here a few years ago, singing
songs about that brave volunteer, redneck Ray! I had missed him and did
wonder about his health a while back. God bless him
Michael had a wicked tongue and did not suffer fools gladly.
And when the Black Rage was not upon him,. an excellent read.
I for one miss the old fart..........................
